Please remember, and help, our troops; we should show our thanks for all our freedoms
Letter to the Editor,
For all those who carry some patriotism in their hearts, I would like to bring something to your attention.
I’m sure many people feel the same way as I do about our troops, that they are the heart and backbone of this country and without their sacrifices we would not know freedom.
It is not only important to acknowledge this but to show our veterans how much we appreciate them. One of the best ways to show appreciation is by sending letters and/or care packages to those fighting overseas.
I have been doing this for more than a year now, and it has brought me more joy than I could ever convey. One thing I’ve noticed from reading what soldiers post is that there are chow halls closing down (because of budget cuts and bases closing down) and many are losing breakfast and some are losing all of their meals.
This is unacceptable to me.
Our soldiers are the hardest-working people in this country, and they do it without complaining. Well, I will do it for them because we live in a country where our prisoners get treated better than our troops. Prisoners get three meals a day, while many of our soldiers don’t. I am so mad about this that I just couldn’t remain silent.
Some may argue, well this is what they signed up for, it’s no big deal, while in almost the same breath they whine about their own jobs. Why should we have that right and not our hard-working veterans?
Please, I hope you will consider my words and take the time to go on anysoldier.com and read what is being posted. Like I said, our soldiers do not complain (even though they have every right to). They are just simply stating how things are for them. And, I hope you will consider sending a package and/or a letter to show them they are not forgotten, and that we will stand by them through their hardships.
Maybe you can get your churches or schools involved, there’s so much we can do. For most people their patriotism doesn’t go beyond the bumper sticker on their car. We CAN do more.
Just imagine being in a soldier’s place and only having MREs to sustain you, remember that while you’re eating your daily meals. Check out http://www.anysoldier.com/
