Joseph Applegate, 85, of Chesterfield, Va.

Joseph Lyle Applegate, 85, of Chesterfield, Va., went to be with the Lord on Feb. 27, 2013. 

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Marguerite Madeline McMinimy Applegate; an infant son, Wayne Lyle Applegate; and a granddaughter, Billie Jo Clodfelter. 

Joseph is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, April V. Applegate of Mahomet, Ill., Vicki M. (Stanley) McHenry of Sorrento, Fla., Desiree L. Bane of Albany, Ga., Marguerite A. (Jeffrey) Evitts of North Chesterfield, Va., and Eddie Huffstutler, Jr. of Sorrento, Fla.; son and daughter-in-law, Joseph B. (Nancy) Applegate of Rome, Ga.; sisters, Mary Johnson, Phyllis Hansberry and Linda Albert; brother, Dewayne “Bud” Applegate; grandchildren, Barbara, Joseph, Melissa, Danielle, Deidre, Joshua, and Hannah; nine great-grandchildren; and countless friends and relatives.  

Joseph retired as a master sergeant from the U.S. Marine Corps with 30 years of distinguished service. He was a member of the Marine Corps League, VFW Albany, and the American Legion. 

The family will receive friends 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 5, at Webber Memorial Baptist Church, 7800 Salem Church Road, North Chesterfield, Va., 23237. 

His funeral will follow at 11 a.m. at the church. Interment will be Thursday, March 7, 2013, at Crown Hill Cemetery in Albany, Ga. 

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to Webber Memorial Baptist Church. Semper Fi, Pop.
