Troy quilters plan two Saturday teaching events

| March 1, 2013 11:43 AM

The Tender Lovin’ Quilters of Troy are hosting their annual Quilting 101 Day on Saturday, March 2, at the Troy United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall.

This event is open to the public, and it is the guild’s way of preserving and teaching the art of quilting to all who have an interest.

The day begins at 9 a.m. with various demonstrations given by guild members. A potluck lunch is scheduled for noon followed by two hands-on classes at 1 p.m. One of the classes will be making fabric gift boxes, and the other is basic tote-bag construction.

The morning demonstrations are free and the afternoon classes are available for a nominal fee to cover expenses. Door prizes will be given out and a quilt related thrift sale will be held all morning.

The morning demonstrations are on a variety of subjects, such as stabilizer usage, mitered corners, bumpless binding, and paper-piecing techniques.

Participants will learn how to make decorative as well as useful  project bags, easy potholders and how to add mock piping to your quilt bindings.  A demonstration on using your printer on fabrics will also be given as well as basic tote-bag construction.
