Arnold E. Urbick 97, formerly of Libby

Arnold E. Urbick, 97, passed away Feb. 13, 2013. 

He was born Jan. 6, 1916, in Bellingham, Wash., the son of Anton and Saraphina (Peloski) Urbick. He grew up in the Happy Valley area of Bellingham and served as altar boy at Sacred Heart Church. 

He attended Assumption School from the first through the ninth grades, until the Assumption burned down. Then he transferred to Fairhaven High School where he completed high school. 

Arnold worked at the Bloedel-Donovan Box Factory in Bellingham for a few years, and on Jan. 10, 1941, he married Dorothy Caster. 

In 1942, Arnold joined the U.S. Army and served 2½ years in the Aleutians. After returning to civilian life, Arnold and Dorothy lived in Bellingham, Wash., where they had two children, Lorna Marie (1949) and Dolores Ann (1950). 

Later, they resettled in the Everett, Wash., area, and had four more children, Rita Lynn, John Arnold, Frank Howard and Michael Leo. 

In Everett, Arnold worked for the Walton mill and then spent 23 years with the Scott Paper, Co. He worked as a boom man, walking log booms in the bay and pushing logs into the mill chute for processing. 

After retiring, Arnold focused his attention on his place on the Pilchuck River where he enjoyed having his family around for picnics and gatherings. 

Arnold had 10 grandchildren, Sheena Dye, Cristin Dye, Danelle Dye, Taylor Calamar, Colin Shea, Katelyn Shea, Cale Urbick, Allison Urbick, Justin Bergevin and Machaela Urbick. He also had four great-grandchildren, Reese, Morgan, Thomas, Timothy, and Beck.

In later years, Arnold moved to Libby to be near his oldest daughter. After about five years, he returned to Washington and spent the rest of his life in Port Orchard, near other family members. 

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. March 2, 2013, at The Immaculate Conception Church, 2509 Hoyt Ave., Everett, Wash., with a reception afterward.
