The event, put on by Fish Wildlife & Parks, the Forest Service and Army Corps of Engineers, included a casting contest, hotdogs for the hungry, random prizes, and first, second and third prizes for the biggest fish. One could catch and realease as many as they wanted, but the keepers were limited to 2. There were even volunteers on hand to cleran you fish for you. By 11:15 a.m. 55 kids had signed up to cast their luck.

Even in the late 1960s and early 1970s sturgeon were occasionally caught by anglers downstream of Kootenai Falls, including the 96-pound state record caught in 1968.
