Loggers pick up first-round victory over the Glacier Twins
Winning pitcher Will Reichel pitched through the sixth inning and led the team to a 16-6 victory over the Glacier Twins A team on Thursday in Eureka.
Andrew Haggerty relieved Reichel for the seventh and eighth innings before Oliver Grupenhoff came out to pitch the ninth and final inning. Thursday was Grupenhoff’s sixth appears on the mound.
“He threw a good bull-pin and we’re going to need him down the road,” Head coach Kelly Morford said of Grupenhoff.
The Loggers chose the away side in order to attempt get the upper hand early in their first game of the tournament. The strategy succeeded, as the Loggers finished the top of the first with one run.
“We made a few mistakes, but we worked ourselves out of trouble,” said Morford. The Loggers finished with three errors.
The turning point came in the fourth inning when Libby capitalized on three Glacier errors to score four runs and take a 5-2 lead.
Shortstop Jared Winslow batted 3-for-6, while Grupenhoff batted 3-for-5 and Andrew Haggerty went 2-for-6, both had 3 RBIs.
The Loggers will play the winner of Mission Valley Mariners and Kootenai Valley Rangers at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
