Council OKs pit water meter project

| January 28, 2013 5:15 PM

Libby City Council members on Tuesday, abiding by a Rural Development loan requirement for water improvements, approved a mandate to require those homes and businesses that are not metered to install curbside pit meters.

The council voted 4-0 to approve the mandate. Councilwomen Vicky Lawrence and Peggy Williams were not present.

Council President Bill Bischoff motioned for approval, which was seconded by Councilwoman Barb Desch.

“We must meter all water used,” Bischoff said, indicating figures stated 114 customers are not metered.

Council members had the option of requiring meters in homes or at curbside, and they chose curbside. Customers likely will not see an added expense on their bills for the meters, Bischoff said.

Mayor Doug Roll said the council considered having city crews install the meters, but it just wasn’t feasible.

“It’s just too hard to do it ourselves,” Roll said.

The council also agreed to use lighting and International Paper funds to repave several blocks of 10th Street after water-main repairs are made.

“I think we need to do it right,” Desch said of the paving.
