T-Falls, Plains, Frenchtown to meet local squads

Another weekend full of local sporting events means sports junkies will be able to get their fill of home events.

The Libby girls basketball team, after snatching defeat from the jaws of victory against Polson on Jan. 12, was beaten up by the 6-2 Glacier Wolfpack on Tuesday night to fall to 1-11.

With the loss to AA Glacier, Libby may have to shift gears rapidly to face the Class B Thompson Falls basketball team. The Lady Bluehawks are 7-3 and lead District 7-B with their potent offense.

The Lady Loggers will host Thompson Falls today, Friday, Jan. 18. When the two teams met Jan. 11, Libby limped away with a 42-29 loss.

Libby’s boys basketball team hopes to improve on a last-minute win against conference foe Polson last Saturday. 

On Tuesday, AA opponent Glacier scored 16 unanswered points in the first quarter to stun Libby en route to a 68-29 win.

The Loggers dropped to 4-7 and will travel to Thompson Falls, hoping to duplicate the 54-41 win Libby earned on Thursday, Jan. 10.

Libby trailed at the end of three quarters, but drubbed the Bluehawks in the fourth with help from senior center Kraig Nelson’s 21 points.

Troy’s girls basketball team has to rebound from a 38-21 loss to Mission last Saturday, as it plays host to Plains on Friday.

The last time Troy and the Trotters met, the surprising Plains squad won by 10 at home. Troy is 2-6 with no conference wins, but that could change against Plains with a home-court advantage.

Troy travels to Noxon on Saturday night. The Lady Trojans beat the Lady Red Devils 36-20 at home. 

The Lady Trojans travelled to Ronan Thursday night, but finished too late for print.

Troy’s boys basketball team is 3-1 in District 7-B play, and has been at turns very good, just ok, and lacking. 

With a 19-point home loss to Mission Jan. 12, it seems Cory Andersen’s team can’t establish an identity. The Trojans will get a chance against a 3-7 Ronan on Thursday night.

The team faces Plains, whom the Trojans beat by six on the road, Friday, Jan. 18. The Trojans will then travel to Noxon on Saturday. The Red Devils used height and accurate shooting to best Troy by seven points at the Troy Activities Center Dec. 15.

Greenchain wrestling will head home for the first time since Dec. 6 as the grapplers will battle the Frenchtown Broncs for the third time in a little over a week, this time at Ralph Tate Gymnasium on Saturday, Jan. 19.

Libby and Troy’s wrestlers got a taste of the Broncs at a double-dual meet with Lake City on Jan. 10, and then saw more Frenchtown wrestlers at the Jug Beck Rocky Mountain Tournament.

But the home match could be a rough one for Libby, which is dealing with fatigue and injury. The home match begins at 3 p.m. Saturday.
