Mission Lady Bulldogs top Lady Trojans, 38-21
Lady Trojans Coach Kara Sevalstad used three defenses against the Lady Bulldogs of Mission on Saturday, but it was the defense Mission employed that was the difference in the game.
“Their 2-3 wide zone worked well against us,” Sevalstad said. “However, they’re a good team, and they’ve beaten some good teams like Bigfork.”
Still, Sevalstad sees improvement in a team that went winless last year.
“We’ve got two wins. We’re still coming along,” she said.
The Lady Bulldogs’ defense stymied the Lady Trojans who did not score in double figures in any quarter, netting just six points at halftime to trail 26-6.
The Lady Trojans had all they could handle in the Lady Bulldogs’ 5-foot-6 Stephanie Lewandowski, who led all scorers with 22 points. In fact, Lewandowski outscored Troy 22-21.
“She’s pretty good,” Sevalstad said.
Troy offered a more balanced offensive attack with Jordan Williams leading the way with six points, followed by Michaela Curry with five and Caitlin Johnston with four.
The Lady Trojans outscored the Lady Bulldogs 9-6 in the third quarter, but at the end of the quarter, Mission still led 32-15.
