Let's clean up recruiting NCAA standards
Letter to the Editor,
Pat Williams is right. Perhaps, the light-hearted need a different word as the all-encompassing “thug” is a bit much for some tea toddlers.
The vetting of new recruits is lacking on the character side, and the NCAA’s idea of student athletics is very antiquated.
Montana makes millions of dollars on football, and its players (those recruited) are the pawns in the big game. Certainly, the NCAA has to revise its conduct, and our university needs to tighten up the recruiting standards.
Pat Williams has the best interest of the university in his heart and had the (fortitude) to stand up and say what needed to be said. We do not need to recruit kids from just anywhere, especially from the streets and playgrounds of gang bangers.
We have a lot of talented kids from right here in Montana who could fill these roles.
We want kids with a moral compass and the desire to be educated. The university is supposed to be educating these kids, not just using them for football glory.
