Camber scores high on recertification

Dr. Anne Camber, local obstetrician and gynecologist with the St. John’s Lutheran Hospital physicians and surgeons group, has proven what her patients had already suspected — that she is a cut above the rest in her field.

In November, Camber sat for re-certification with the American Board of Obstetrics & Gynecology (ABOG), and not only passed with flying colors, but finished with a 98 percent on the test, acing 184 out of 188 questions.

The ABOG is an independent, non-profit organization that certifies obstetricians and gynecologists in the United States. The board was founded in 1927, incorporated in 1930, and is one of 24 specialty boards recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties.

ABOG examines and certifies nearly 1,700 obstetrician and gynecologists every year.  In addition, more than 18,000 physicians are examined for recertification annually. For a physician to receive and maintain board certification, they must complete 120 hours of pertinent continuing medical education, as well as take and pass their re-certification exams.

Bruce Whitfield, CEO at St. John’s Lutheran Hospital, is proud to have such a physician as part of the St. John’s team.

“Board certification is a tangible expression of a physician’s ongoing dedication to outstanding patient care. To score a 98 percent on a board recertification is quite a remarkable accomplishment and a true test to Dr. Camber’s commitment to her profession and to her patients. St. John’s is extremely proud,” Whitfield said.
