Second Amendment protected against tyranny

| February 5, 2013 1:45 PM

Letter to the Editor,

With the push under way now by the Obama administration and the liberal press for gun control, I believe it’s prudent to reflect on the plight of the American people.

We have less freedom than the colonists under British rule in 1776, and we pay far more in taxes. Before we allow the Second Amendment to be infringed, I believe it’s necessary to ask the question: “Do we trust our government?”

Another element that should give us pause is the fact that cities and states that have the strictest gun-control laws also have the highest crime rates. If criminals are the only ones with guns in these areas, it should come as no surprise that the law-abiding would be more victimized.

In history, every totalitarian state that came into being was preceded by confiscation of its citizen’s firearms.

The Second Amendment did not come about so the people would have the means to hunt. It came about so the people would have the means to defend themselves against tyranny.
