Red Cross volunteer gratefull for Troy fire assistance
Letter to the Editor,
Some positive feedback should be given to the community of Troy regarding the aftermath of the apartment fire on Dec. 12, 2013.
While I am certainly proud of the efforts made by the newly forming American Red Cross of Montana Disaster Action Team in Libby, and greatly appreciative of the more experienced Red Cross members who responded from Kalispell and Missoula to back us up, what we found upon arrival was truly remarkable.
Specifically, I am referring to the cooperation of all the entities that helped. Picture this: Several volunteer organizations in addition to ours, public departments and schools, businesses, faith-based organizations and more private citizens than I could count, all cooperating as one team to get the job done.
It was something to see. Special thanks to the Troy Community Baptist Church because, after they were contacted, things started to really come together.
Speaking of teams, if you would like to learn how to become a volunteer on a Disaster Action Team in your area, feel free to contact the American Red Cross of Montana at 800-ARC-MONT (272-6668).
The funds used by these teams to help people come from donations. The positions can be gratifying, especially when you get to partner with agencies like those in Troy Montana.
