Anita L. Banning, 69, of Libby

Anita L. Banning, 69, of Libby died Friday, Dec. 13, 2013, with her family by her side.

She was born Dec. 18, 1943, in Woodland, Wash., to Albert and Rose Engel. She grew up in Woodland and was one of the members of the first class of nurse’s aides for Washington State. She also tried for her pilot’s license.  

Anita married Clayton McBroom, Sr., and they moved to Idaho and then Montana.

She had three children, a daughter, Rose, whom she lost at childbirth, a son, Clayton McBroom, and a daughter Kris Bowers. She and Clayton later separated.

She married her second husband, David Banning, Sr.,  and soon after they moved to Iowa and then to Libby where they lived for about 15 years.  

Anita has always been a devoted grandmother. She was the mother hen to all her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, David Banning, Sr., in 2012; her infant daughter, Rose Mary, and a sister, Mary Ann Mace.  

Survivors include her children, Clayton McBroom, Kris Bowers; a brother, Richard Engel, Sr.; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 22, 2013, at Schnackenberg & Nelson Funeral Home in Libby.

Service will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 23, 2013, at the funeral home.
