Spousal shooting case advances; wife pleads

Libby police continue to investigate Jenna Camille Lewis Hanson, 31, for the shooting of her husband, Scott Hanson.

Jenna Camille Lewis Hanson has been charged with attempted deliberate homicide, aggrevated assault, assault with a weapon and partner or family member assault. She pleaded not guilty Dec. 2.

According to police reports, she told her husband, “I am going to kill you,” after attacking him in bed on Nov. 4 in their West Flower Street residence.

After being tossed from the bed, she allegedly walked into the other room and fired thorugh the wall toward her husband as he sat at the foot of the bed, the report said. The third shot sprayed shards of broken glass from an entertainment center into Scott’s leg.

Soon after, Scott called 911 and ran out of the house. Police found him standing in his boxers and a T-shirt with blood dripping from his right leg at the corner of West Flower Street and Idaho Avenue. After sweeping the house, police found four spent .40-caliber shell casing in the room.

In an interview with police, Jenna Camille Lewis Hanson said her husband, her and another friend went out earlier that night for drinks. She claims to have drank a gallon of Black Velvet whiskey before leaving for the bars.

According to police reports, the gun has no manual safety but does have a safety on the trigger. Jenna Camille Lewis Hanson claims the gun misfired.

A jury trial is scheduled for spring. A pre-trial conference is set for March 17. If found guilty of attempted deliberate homicide, Jenna Camille Lewis Hanson will face a minimum of 20 years in prison or a maximum of 100 years.
