Joyce S. MacDuffie, 88, of Troy

Joyce S. MacDuffie, 88, of Troy passed away on July 30, 2013, at St. John’s Lutheran Hospital in Libby. 

She was born on January 30, 1925, in Great Falls to Archie G. Stubblefield and Pearl Miller Stubblefield. She started school in Great Falls and then moved to Anaconda when she was in the third grade. She continued her education there until she was graduated from high school in 1942.

In 1943, she married S. B. “Mac” MacDuffie in Anaconda. To this union was born one daughter, Jane. The family lived in Helena for several years. She later attended Walla Walla College in College Place, Wash., and University of Montana in Missoula. She graduated with honors from the university in 1962 with a bachelor’s degree in Spanish.

For a number of years, she worked for the Montana Fish & Game Department in Helena, the last several years serving as head of the hunter safety and boating safety programs. 

In 1971, she resigned from this position and she and her husband opened a business in Helena, MacDuffies’ Western Gold. In 1979, they closed their business and retired to Sun City West, Ariz., with a summer home in Troy. In 1982, they sold their home in Sun City West and moved to Troy on a year-round basis. She was an active member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Glen Stubblefield; her daughter, Jane; and her husband, “Mac.”

She is survived by her granddaughter, Monica Cheyenne Beardsley of Kent, Wash.; her step-daughter, Barbara (Ralph) Horn of Kent, Wash.; two step-grandsons, Dan and John Gushing;  and two step-great-grandsons, Christian and Steffan Gushing; her sisters-in-law, Ellen Stubblefield of Helena and Kathy MacDuffie of Oxnard, Calif., as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 5, 2013, at the Methodist Church in Troy conducted by Dennis Crystal. Interment will be in the Troy City Cemetery.
