Libby School District Board members made it official Monday: Ruth Ann VanWorth-Rogers on July 1 will be principal at Libby High School.

VanWorth-Rogers, the 44-year-old former Bakersfield, Calif., school administrator, was approved by a 6-0 vote to be principal.

Two weeks ago, the vote to offer a contract to VanWorth-Rogers was 5-2 with board members Bruce Sickler and Ellen Johnston opposing. Monday afternoon the board backed VanWorth-Rogers 6-0 with Board Member Melissa LaGoy absent.

“I’m very excited about this opportunity to work with directly with Libby students,” VanWorth-Rogers said. “I’m grateful for the support from school, staff and board.”

Two weeks ago, VanWorth-Rogers was offered a contract, and Monday night she formally signed the pact for her to succeed Principal Rik Rewerts. Rewerts is semi-retiring, accepting a part-time principal position with the Noxon school district.

The approval of VanWorth-Rogers ends a selection process that included two local candidates, current Assistant Principal Jim Germany and LES teacher Tom Gallagher.

VanWorth-Rogers was both an elementary and middle school principal in the Bakersfield district, which boasts a student enrollment of nearly 30,000 students and annual budget of about $200 million.

VanWorth-Rogers will receive a salary of $88,096, according to the contract. That salary does not include the benefits package that she will receive, including health insurance, life insurance and retirement.

She will begin work on July 1 and be required to work 217 days.
