Tennis teams split weekend results
The mighty Pirates showed no mercy to Libby’s tennis teams, as both boys and girls teams lost to Polson.
The boys were thumped 2-5. The only winners for Libby were No. 4 singles player Patrick Valentine and the No. 3 doubles team of Jason Brandt and Rasmus Fredborg.
The girls were swept off the court, 0-7.
“That was a pretty salty Polson squad,” said Head Coach Kyle Hannah. “The girls are a year removed from winning state, and Coach (Bob) Hislop thinks his boys have a shot at state, too.”
Valentine’s match wasn’t an easy one, beating his Polson foe, Thomas Crosby, 6-4, 7-6 (5). Brandt and Rasmus also slipped away from their opponents, Quaid Harland and Rylee Andrews 6-4, 7-5.
The girls fought at the top of the singles order, with Kaylene Hudson almost sneaking a set away in her 7-5, 6-0 loss. The doubles teams all lost in straight sets.
The Loggers then took on Hamilton, and the boys turned the tide, winning 7-0 against the Broncs. The girls again struggled, losing 1-6.
“They competed well,” Hannah said of his diminished team. “We were missing four seniors who went to Close-Up. They’ll be back for the next match.”
The overmatched boys Hamilton team wasn’t any contest for the depleted Loggers, but Hannah isn’t looking back. His sights – for both teams – are set on competing and beating Whitefish on April 11.
“That will be a good test for us,” he said. “They’ll be ready.”
