Heritage Museum's Chili Cook-off is set

| September 19, 2012 10:47 AM

The Libby Heritage Museum’s Chili Cook-off is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 6.

For the seventh year in a row, the best chili-cook hopefuls will gather at Libby’s chili hot spot, The Heritage Museum.

Contestants are invited to form a team and take part.

Cooks can make their own pot of red or just taste the entries. The date is on a Saturday, and the weather, though it’s occasionally been a bit brisk in the early morning, is usually comfortable.

The gates will open at 7:30 a.m. to give the cooks plenty of time to combine their guaranteed-fresh ingredients and simmer them to perfection. Non-cooks are welcome to watch.

The two categories will be Texas Style (meat, tomato-based sauce, no beans) and All Other Types (with beans, without meat, whatever).

Prizes in each category will be $100 cash for first place, a $50 Rosauers Gift Card for second place, and $25 cash for third place. Team entries are welcome.

For $4 chili lovers will receive cornbread, a spoon and enough cups to sample every entry. Proceeds will benefit The Heritage Museum.

A panel of judges will pick the money winners, but the public tasters will vote for the People’s Choice.

Sponsors are Edward Jones, Frontier Communications, Rosauers, Amerigas, Loveless Realty & DeShazer-Ryan Realty.

Pick up rules and entry forms at the Libby Library and the Libby Chamber of Commerce, or download them from the museum’s Website, libbyheritagemuseum.org.

Mail them to Susan Castaneda, 1143 Greers Ferry Road, Libby 59923, along with the $5 entry fee. Entries must be received by Oct. 1. For more information, call Castaneda at 293-2171 or send an e-mail to heritagemuseum@frontier.com.
