Imaging Department recognized

| October 17, 2012 11:34 AM

For 10 years, St. John’s Lutheran Hospital has conducted its recognition program for outstanding quality improvement team projects.

At the end of each fiscal year, departments are invited to submit a project that improved quality of services in their department.  Each entry has to explain why it thinks their project qualifies for the annual “Quest for Quality” award.

This year’s winner was the Imaging Department for the addition of a women’s center to their department.  The focus of the project was to improve patient comfort and privacy for women who are receiving mammograms and breast ultrasounds.

“Our old darkroom was nothing more than a dark, smelly storage closet,” said David Broderick, RT, BS, and Imaging Department Manager.

“A brilliant idea prompted the plan to convert it to a changing room and make the adjacent space a private waiting area for our mammography and breast ultrasound patients.  These ladies are required to wear a top that feels very immodest, and they had to walk some distance from the changing room to the exam room.  But, that was before the big change.”

With the help of the SJLH plant operations team, a tasteful, inexpensive remodel produced an enclosed waiting area and private changing room for women receiving mammograms and breast ultrasounds.

The new area is immediately adjacent to both the mammo-exam room and the ultrasound-exam room.
