Obama well on the way of turning country into welfare state, Payne says

Letter to the Editor,

Barack Obama, with the enthusiastic cooperation of the Democratic Party, is, well on the way to turning our country into a welfare state.

The numbers are appalling: 46 million receiving food stamps; nearly 9 million are on disability; 106 million living in a household where at least one person is receiving government aid. Far from dissuading dependency on the government, the Obama administration is actively encouraging this trend.

It seems to me Obama and the Chicago hoodlums he brought to Washington with him are making a mockery of our once solvent nation and our people (if the polls can be believed) are apparently OK with this.

It should come as no surprise that Obama’s ideology mirrors that of Communism. Both of his parents were communists and it is logical to assume their beliefs were instilled in their son at an early age. What’s surprising is the extent to which the American people are enamored with Obama and his flawed ideology when there are so many examples of countries that set out to redistribute wealth and wound up redistributing poverty.

If anyone is actually thinking of voting for Obama this November, I urge you to study the consequences of Communism in such countries as East Germany before the fall of the Berlin Wall, Stalin’s Russia in the 1930s, Cuba, Greece, Spain, and China (before it embraced the idea of capitalism for it’s economic engine).

It is ironic that China, after decades of stagnation under government control of its’ economy, finally recognized the advantages of free enterprise and began to emulate our system while we began to abandon the very system that made us a superpower and instead began to adopt the same system that impeded China, ruined the Russian economy, retarded Cuba and is now threatening Europe.

With money tight and budgets being cut at municipalities all across the nation, it seems a strange time for Los Angeles to undertake the extravagant project of moving the shuttle, Endeavor to their city, especially when the move requires cutting down 400 trees along the route. I’m told the residents of Los Angeles are split about evenly against and in favor of the project. Funny how this roughly correlates with the number that pay taxes versus those that don’t.

I believe it’s necessary for government at all levels to recognize we are in a recession in our country. It is not the time for grandiosity.

In the same vein, I believe the rich would be well advised to tone down their ostentation in times like these. In a democracy, the wealth of the rich can be confiscated as Obama is proposing right now. I was dumbfounded when there was no public outrage as the bankers that were bailed out of bankruptcy by the taxpayers paid themselves unprecedented bonuses. Maybe the people were so busy watching “American Idol” they didn’t notice.
