Libby falls to T-Falls; hopes to fix hitting at Missoula
A tough Thompson Falls team handed Libby’s volleyball team another loss Tuesday, sending the Lady Loggers to the Missoula Tournament a frustrating 2-8.
“I thought (the win against) Frenchtown was a turning point,” said head coach Cindy Ostrem-Johnston. “But Thompson Falls is a legit team. They are tough and are going to do well in their division.”
Libby was swept 3-0; 25-19, 25-22, 25-23 in matches that featured some Libby leads that the girls couldn’t hold on to.
Part of the problem, Ostrem-Johnston said, was a low-energy level and hitting errors. Libby had 28 kills but also 21 errors; 21 points that the Lady Loggers could have used to edge the Bluehawks.
Hannah England led Libby in aces with four. Lauren Wepprecht had half her team’s kills with 14 and an attack percentage of .290. England also had 23 of 24 set assists. Taylor Quinn and Hailey Craig had two blocks each.
The freshman team went 1-for-3 during the week, picking up its first win against Bonners Ferry, 25-7, 17-25, 15-11. Kaylene Hudson was the hero of that match, with 12 digs and five aces.
They were swept against Frenchtown, but did serve 94 percent.
Thompson Falls squeaked out a win in four sets to send the girls to 1-10.
With 19 aces, Libby served well, but made many hitting errors and T-Falls capitalized.
