Golfers return from state

Libby’s three state golfers had a mixed bag of results this weekend at the state golf tournament at Old Works in Anaconda.

None of the boys finished in the top-15, but they all had decent days.

Morgan Wilkins led Libby, shooting 89-88 for a 177. Jonny Cielak was close behind with 93-89 for 182. Quinn Sullivan shot 96-99 for 195.

Bobby Frank, from Sidney, won the Class-A tournament with a 74-80 and 154. 

Coach Dann Rohrer said his boys played well, but were ultimately not satisfied with their results.

“They all played some really good golf,” he said. “But they each had some holes that bit them. They played OK, and they know that, but I wouldn’t call them happy.”

Rohrer said that’s just how the sport is. 

Old Works employees had punched the greens the week before, causing trouble.

“The greens were very rough,” Rohrer said. “You have to do it sometime, but not a week before the state tournament. It takes a little bit of skill out and adds a little luck.”
