Friends of Libby Library hosts a book sale this Friday, Oct. 5 xx
Events at the Libby Library of the Lincoln County Library System kick off the month with the Friends of the Library’s monthly book sale from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5.
The entrance is on Main St. It’s a great way to support your library.
The Libby Library will host story time for preschool-age children at 10 a.m. every Tuesday.
The libraries in Eureka, Libby and Troy will be closed Saturday, Oct. 6, in observance of Columbus Day.
From now until Saturday, Oct. 6 is Banned Books Week. Persons may celebrate their freedom to read whatever they choose by checking out a book that has been challenged or banned at libraries around the country. Persons might be surprised at some of the books.
Today, Oct. 3, the After School Program for ages 6 to 12 at 4 p.m.: Days are getting shorter and the air is getting colder. The season is changing, so help decorate the children’s area for fall.
On Oct. 5 at 4 p.m., the library will show the movie Footloose (PG-13).
This 2011 remake of the classic 1980s movie is about a small town where rock music and dancing have been banned. Ren McCormack, the new student at the high school, is a rebellious and outspoken teen determined to shake things up.
On Oct. 10, the After-School Program, ages 6 to 12 at 4 p.m.: What’s your favorite dinosaur? Come play archaeologist and learn about some Montana dinosaurs.
On Oct. 13, at noon the library will host a “Computers for Beginners” class.
Learn the basics of using a computer, from turning it on to using that pesky mouse. They’ll cover the components of a computer, as well as how to create a file, save it, and reopen it.
At 2 p.m. Oct. 13, the library will host a book discussion. The book is Nickel and Dimed: On (Not) Getting By in America by Barbara Ehrenreich.
Inspired by welfare reform of the late 1990s, Ehrenreich gave life in the poor and working class a try. Leaving behind a comfortable middle-class life, she accepted whatever job she could find and tried to make ends meet.
Refreshments will be served. Remember to check out your copy early enough to read it before the discussion.
On Oct. 17, the After-School Program, ages 6 - 12 at 4 p.m.: What makes a tornado? What can winds do? Build a wind catcher to brighten up the autumn days.
At 2 p.m. Oct. 20, the library will show the 2011 movie Thor (PG-13). In this Marvel Comics – inspired action flick, thunder god Thor finds himself banished by his father, Odin, and forced to live among humans on Earth to learn humility. Can Thor regain his powers and return home?
On Oct. 24, the After-School Program, ages 6 - 12 at 4 p.m.: For United Nations Day, create your own nation and design a flag to represent it.
The library, on Oct. 25, will sponsor the NaNoWriMo Kick-Off Party at 6 p.m. at The Hot Club, Troy.

November is National Novel Writer’s Month, and the goal is to write a 50,000 word novel between Nov. 1 and 30.
Join the Libby Library and the Troy Wordsmiths at the kick-off party, where we’ll get you signed up with NaNoWriMo and hear from local author David Latham, author of two novels.
The last Friday of every month is Amnesty Day at the Lincoln County Libraries.
This month Amnesty Day is Friday, Oct. 26. Any materials less than 90 days overdue which are returned in good condition to any of the three libraries on that day will have all penalties waived. Overdue interlibrary loan materials are not included.
On Oct. 27 the library will host a Pumpkin Decorating Extravaganza at noon.
The leaves are crunchy, the air is cooler, and the nights are longer. Everyone is invited to spend a fall afternoon carving, painting, or even bedazzling a pumpkin to celebrate the season. Apple cider and snacks will be served.
Stick around for a showing of Hocus Pocus (PG) at 2 p.m. After 300 years, three witch sisters are resurrected in Salem, Mass., on Halloween night. Two teenagers and an immortal cat must put an end to the witches’ chaos.
On Oct 31, the After-School Program, ages 6 - 12 at 4 p.m.: Stop by the library in a Halloween costume and your name will be entered into a drawing for a “Trick or Treat” prize.
