Evans resigns his position as city attorney for Troy
Just when you thought the furor over Troy’s City Attorney was settled, another wrench in the works comes along.
The newly reappointed Charles Evans has tendered his resignation from the position, citing hearing issues as the cause.
“Over the last couple years, my hearing has started to deteriorate,” Evans said. “It has been a very frustrating experience for me. In courtroom settings it is hard for me to grasp what is being said.”
Evans was rehired in late July after being dismissed by former mayor Don Banning in February.
Banning said he hadn’t been following the City Council’s proceedings, but wasn’t particularly surprised by the Evans development.
“I terminated him in February after a short two months in the position.
When asked whether he had been compelled to offer his resignation, Evans brushed it off.
“I haven’t been pressured,” he said.
Evans said that his ailing hearing has taken a toll on his private practice as well, and has tried to take more cases where his courtroom presence was not as necessary.
It has been a disappointing period for the attorney, who had hoped to continue in the position.
“I had hoped that with good quality hearing aids and proper adjustments, I could continue,” he said. “That was not the case.”
