The Libby Rod and Gun Club has begun the process to add a pistol range to the Lincoln County Shooting Range facilities.

On Monday, a forester and geologist were at the site located south of Libby on Farm to Market Road marking trees the club will “buy” to make room for the new range.

Much still needs to be accomplished, but USFS Geologist Bonnie Geber said she could see construction on the range beginning within a month.

“I can see it (construction) before the start of winter,” Geber said.

Accompanying Geber in the marking of the trees Monday was Forester April Rainey, Rod and Gun Club President Don Clark and Club Board Member Dan Ackerman.

The range will be 50-yards deep by 50-feet wide and be enclosed on three sides by a nine-feet high earthen berm that is 21-feet wide.

“It will be something really great for all our members,” Ackerman said. “It will make both those people shooting rifles and pistol shooters feel better about their surroundings. I think it will be a win for everyone.”
