Jim Mee, a local golfer who regularly is among the local tournaments leaders, has been named NAIA Golfer of the Week.

Mee, who is a graduating senior with a degree in civil engineering from Carroll College, has been named the final NAIA National Men’s Golfer of the Week for the 2012 season.

Mee was selected based on his performance at the Frontier Conference Golf Championships held April 23 and 24, and was chosen out of a pool of conference/independent/unaffiliated group golfer of the week selections.

The honor is the first such award for Carroll since men’s golfers of the week began in 2011. The senior native of Libby, Mont., carded an 11-under-par (64-72-70 -71-277)  on the way to posting the lowest four-round individual score.

That performance carried the Fighting Saints to their first-ever men’s golf conference title, clinching the program’s first trip to the National Championships.

Mee’s first-round 8-under-par 64 set a tournament course record at Larchmont Golf Course in Missoula, Mont.

Mee, 22, is the grandson of Jim and Eileen Mee of Libby and the son of Jerry and Barb Mee of Libby.

“Jim is not only a fine golfer, but he’s an excellent person and human being,” said Eileen, Jim’s proud grandmother.
