Barb Swenson, publisher of The Western News since 2006, will retire from the position Oct. 31.

Swenson has been with the newspaper since 1994.

Swenson said she plans to spend more time with her husband of 42 years, David.

“It’s been very gratifying serving The Western News and the people of this fine community,” Swenson said Wednesday.

“Barb has been an integral part of The Western News for many years and she will be missed,” said Rick Weaver, the publisher at the Daily Inter Lake.

“At the same time, I know she looks forward to spending more time with family and having time to do the things she wants to do,” Weaver said.

“Barb was gracious enough to give us advance notice of her retirement; which will give us the opportunity to find the right replacement.

“That person will be on board prior to Barb’s last day on the job,” he said.
