Cabinet View FSA petition is approved

| May 16, 2012 7:12 AM

Lincoln County Commissioners on Wednesday unanimously passed a resolution to accept a petition seeking dissolution of the Cabinet View Fire Service Area.

The petition was received with 66 signatures, the earliest dated March 5; the latest signed April 24.

According to state statutes, the petition, which was verified by County Adminstrator Bill Bischoff and his staff, needed only 30 independent signatures to be considered.

The one-page resolution, which was read aloud by Presiding Commissioner Marianne Roose, seeks the disbanding of the Cabinet View Fire Service Area, with only a public hearing date to be considered.

The hearing date, which Roose acknowledged will be published in The Western News on two occasions with at least six days separating the two public notice dates.

Roose apologized for the crowded meeting, and she vowed the hearing would be at a larger venue.

More than 50 people crowed into the Commissioners meeting room, with an estimated 30 people standing along the walls and overflowing into the hall.

Troy Commissioner Ron Downey made the motion to accept the petition to start the wheels in motion to dissolve the CVFSA. Libby Commissioner Tony Berget seconded Downey’s motion and Roose added an “aye” to make the vote unanimous.

“These types of decisions are most difficult,” Roose said. “However, we have an obligation to consider these (petitions) when they are brough before us.”
