Chamber Duck Race scheduled for May 26

| May 12, 2012 1:04 AM

The Libby Area Chamber of Commerce has scheduled its Duck Race for Saturday, May 26, on Flower Creek.

The annual Chamber fundraiser will begin at noon, and a variety of 16 dozen ducks will be placed at the “Upper Bridge” in Flower Creek between Rosauers and Hometown Variety.

The race will conclude downstream at the Highway 2 Bridge.

“It will be a good race,” said Libby Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Shanda Jennings. “We’ll make sure no ducks get past us.”

The Chamber will rent 192 numbered ducks for $20 each, all of which will compete in the first of five heats.

Ultimately, a segmented portion of the winning ducks from each heat will advance to the next, until the fifth heat when the final 10 ducks will advance.

“Then the Top Three ducks will be awarded price money,” Jennings said, indicating the first-place duck will receive $300; the second-place duck will receive $200 and third place $100.

Jennings said there also will be a “Free-For-All” Race in which owners of ducks not finishing high enough to advance can “buy” their way into the next heat for $4.

“Yes, it’s sort of like a consolation bracket,” Jennings said. “It should be a lot of fun.”

The event, Jennings said, will offer a themed duck for just about everyone’s interest. The offered ducks include the following: Paint It Pink; hippie mailman; cowboy; Logger; fishing; military; nerd; nurse; camping; police; patriotic; construction; viking and farm.

“As you can see, we’ve got ducks for just about everyone. And, half of the proceeds from the Paint It Pink Ducks will go to the Paint It Pink program at St. John’s Hospital,” Jennings said.

Ducks are available at the Chamber of Commerce office, Town and Country Properties and For His Glory Photography.
