Montana Commissioner of Securities and Insurance Monica J. Lindeen has a simple lesson for Treasure State investers: If an investment return seems too good to be true, it probably is.

That mantra and the vow to regularly monitor investments  were the catch phrases posed Monday by Lindeen, her team of watchdogs and a Montana-made documentary narrated by actor and state resident Bill Pullman during the nearly two-hour steak dinner and data session, which was followed by a question-and-answer period at the Ponderosa Room at City Hall.

“The keys are to monitor your investments. Pay attention to the paperwork and never sign any blank forms,” Lindeen said citing a mistake made by a single-mother widow who was bilked out of her insurance money.

“If someting sounds too good, it probably is,” Lindeen said.
