All the way from Kodiak, Alaska, Mike Julius, RN has accepted a position as the Emergency Department Manager at St. John’s Lutheran Hospital.

“I enjoy nursing and the challenges of department managing,” stated Julius. “I look forward to continuing my career at St. John’s.”

He is sure that he will feel right at home in Libby and at the local hospital. He arrives at St. John’s from Providence Kodiak Island Medical Center (PKIMC) in Kodiak, Alaska, where he was the manager of the Emergency Department.

“PKIMC is very similar to SJLH in size and capabilities, and is also an area faced with geographical challenges.”

He received his associate’s degree in nursing from Missouri State in 1995, and recently returned to formal education through the University of Great Falls, right here in Montana, where he completed his bachelors of nursing program last December.

Julius has already started working toward and thinking about ways to make advancements to the Emergency Department.

“I am currently visiting with the ED staff and providers, as well as administration to identify the strengths and the challenges of the ED at St. John’s.

“Through this I hope to gain insight on areas for growth and work from there. One of the immediate areas identified is an improved program for transporting patients from St. John’s to distant facilities providing specialized care for the patients in our community.”

Julius has two grown sons that reside in Missouri, and his wife, Shannah and step-son, Mason will be joining him in Libby later this month.

“It is a pleasure to come to Libby. I have met wonderful people since arriving. I look forward to my future here and the opportunities to come,” Julius said.
