John D. Cormier 59, of Baton Rouge

John Daniel “JD” Cormier, 59, died Tuesday Feb. 21, 2012, onboard the Norwegian “Spirit” Cruise Ship.

Born in Bremerton Naval Hospital in Bremerton, Wash., on Sept. 14, 1952, he was the son of Amarant M. Cormier, and the late Norman G. Cormier.

He was a graduate of Broadmoor High School in Baton-Rouge, La.

John earned an Associate’s Degree from Waldorf College, Forest City, Iowa. He received police certification from Forsyth Technical Community College, in Winston-Salem, N.C.

In 1974, John joined the Kernersville Police Department. In 1978 he returned to Baton-Rouge and joined the East Baton-Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Department. He retired with 30 years of service from the Sheriff’s Department.

In 2010, he was elected Constable of Ward 3 District 2 East Baton-Rouge Parish. John was a member of Chapel of the Cross Lutheran Church at LSU.?

John was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents John and Augusta Cormier of Libby, Mont.; and maternal grandparents, Daniel and Marie Kanzler of Ritzville, Wash.?

Survivors include his mother, Amarant M. Cormier of Kernersville, brothers Paul Norman Cormier and wife Barbara of Baton-Rouge, La., Thomas Aaron Cormier and wife Debbie of Kernersville; nieces Kathryne Cormier Bulger and husband U.S. Army Major Ryan Bulger of Fort Leavenworth, Kan., Chelsey Danielle Cormier of Baton-Rouge; nephew U.S. Marine Corps Lt. Seth Christian Cormier of Twentynine Palms, Calif.; great-nieces Annabelle Marie Bulger, Lila Elizabeth Bulger, and great-nephew Jackson James Bulger all of Fort Leavenworth, Kan., and very special friend Kay Dobie of Greensboro, N.C.?

Funeral Services celebrating his life were held Wednesday Feb. 29, 2012, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Baton-Rouge with the Reverend Gary Peterson officiating.

A graveside service was held at 10 a.m. Friday, March 2, 2012. at Eastlawn Gardens of Memory in Kernersville, N.C.
