Students enjoy Turner Mountain Skier Appreciation Day

On President’s Day last Monday, Turner Mountain offered a Skier Appreciation Day.

Students were allowed to ski for free for a day, if they received a voucher and adults skied for half price.

The day was perfect for skiing. Junior Dallas Brown said, “There was a lot of loose snow so the skiing was nice.”

There was lots of fun to be had.

Freshman Lana Snyder had never gone skiing before and she had a lot of fun doing it.

Junior Jacob O’Bleness skis a few times a year and had fun on Monday. O’Bleness also has skied at Schweitzer, but he still likes Turner, a lot.

One of the most appealing aspects of skiing at Turner is that the mountain is “steep, deep and cheap.”

On Customer Appreciation Day, the cheap part is very evident.

Adam Christianson, a 1981 graduate of LHS, was up at Turner with his daughter, a senior, and son, a freshman. They were visiting from California.

“I love skiing at Turner,” Christiansen said, “and I wanted my family to experience it as well.”

Both of his kids said they were loving the powder and that the skiing at Turner was “awesome” compared to what they are used to.

Christianson’s children are on a school break this week and took advantage of the time to visit their grandma, Mabel Edington, and to get in some good skiing.

Not much of the mountain was groomed, so less experienced skiers and snowboarders had trouble for the first few runs until the powder was skied off some.

The lift ran well, although there were often pauses so that Luke Weber’s dad, Jayson, could get him onto the lift.

Weber skis on a mono-ski handled by his parents.

“It was really cool to watch Luke and his family ski together,” said Junior Sarah Nash.

“Luke gave me cookies on his iPad,” Junior Elly Webster added.

Webber has an iPad for communicating with others, and he pointed to “yes” when Webster asked for a cookie.

Turner is going to be open until the end of March, and as many LHS students found out this weekend, it’s a great place to spend a day off from school.
