The Independent Order of Odd Fellows, Cabinet Lodge No. 68 in Libby has presented two $300 scholarships to Flathead Valley Community College Lincoln County Campus students Sarah Lyons and Josiah Schertel.

The Odd Fellows is a community-based group whose mission is to provide those in need with resources to help meet their needs.

The organization dates back to 1790 in England when a group of men set out to help people in need during an epidemic. They were termed “odd fellows” by the elite who found it odd that anyone would want to help the poor.

Libby High School graduate Sarah Lyons is pursuing an Associate of Applied Science degree in business management. Josiah Schertel is pursuing general studies coursework toward an Associate of Science transfer degree. The scholarships will be used to help with the students’ school expenses.

For more information on how to apply for scholarships, contact FVCC Associate Director, Financial Aid Danelle Whitten at 406 756-3842 or at dwhitten@fvcc.edu.
