Festival promoters plan bigger bash for the Fourth

The massive influx of people for Troy’s Fourth of July celebration are in for surprises and thrills Wednesday, as the city has spent more time and money than ever to make Independence Day go off with a bang.

Darren Coldwell, one of the organizers of the event, said this year is going to dazzle those who show up to Roosevelt Park.

“It’s going to be a bigger fireworks show,” Coldwell said. “We spent nearly $7,000 on fireworks and got an additional 25 percent more fireworks as a bonus for buying so many.”

Coldwell, along with a dedicated team of nine volunteers, have set about to make all aspects of the days (there is also a quilt show July 3 at W.F. Morrison school gym from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.) larger than ever.

“We put our heads together and are trying to make this event go as smoothly as past years,” Coldwell said. “We are expecting more food vendors, the car show is going to be bigger and two F-15s are still going to give the parade a flyover.”

The parade, which people line up for at 10 a.m., will march down Highway 2 and into Troy at 11 a.m., and many of the 4,000-6,000 spectators Troy draws will be there all day.

In addition to these, a new band will entertain celebrators. Simon Sez, a rock band from Coeur d’Alene, will play music from 7:30 p.m. until the fireworks at 11. They dabble in all sorts of rock, from 50s to Johnny Cash to AC/DC. The full schedule hasn’t been an easy chore, but Coldwell knows who to thank.

“It’s been a real community effort,” he said. “People should come out because it is just so much fun.”

July 3

 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. - “It’s A Tea Party” Quilt Show at WF Morrison school gym, hosted by Troy’s Tender Lovin Quilters.

July 4

Craft & Food Vendors - All day.

9 a.m. - All church service at Babe Ruth Ball Field in Troy.

9 a.m. - Breakfast starts at the Roosevelt Park Cook Shack

10 a.m. - Parade line-up

11 a.m. - 5 p.m. - “It’s A Tea Party” Quilt Show at WF Morrison school gym, hosted by Troy’s Tender Lovin Quilters

11 a.m. - Parade along Highway 2 & through Troy

Noon - Live music starts and continues until after midnight (see music schedule below)

Noon - 3 p.m. - Car Show

1 p.m. and 3 p.m. - Kootenai Cavemen at Lincoln Theater

2 p.m. - Children’s games on the field

7:30 p.m. - Evening music - Simon Sez from Coeur d’Alene, Idaho

11 p.m. - Fireworks.

Bus will start at Noon with stops at the Elementry School, Activity Center and Roosevelt Park

This year’s t-shirts will be available soon at Troy area businesses, as well as at the information booth on July 4th.
