Dad's Weekend Fishing draws droves

<p>Christian Huffman laughs as he holds up his recent spoils, a small trout dancing and shimmying by his feet. Huffman won second place for catching a more than two pound fish. Prizes consisted of fishing gear to let the hobby grow.</p>

Fish and Wildlife had stocked the pond with 120 brood stock trout, 500 cutthroat and 1,200 rainbow trout. Kids and parents weren’t the only ones to hunt for fish, as an opportunistic osprey soared above, looking for the glint of a trout’s scales.</p>
Roosevelt Park was ringed with kids and families the day before Father’s Day, as the Forest Service and Fish, Wildlife and Parks put on a special event at Roosevelt Park pond in Troy.
Prizes were given for the longest cast and for the heaviest three fishes caught by the nearly 200 who attended.
“We have 103 kids out fishing, that could be a record,” said Jim Dunnigan of Fish, Wildlife and Parks. “It’s a great event for the kids and we’ve had a really nice turnout.”
The winner, Kolton Winebark, caught a four pound fish from the 120 brood stock in the pond.
