Charlotte Renate Schauss, 75, Libby

Charlotte Renate Schauss, 75, died in her home in Libby, of natural causes on June 7, 2012.  

She was born on March 2, 1937, in Breslau, Germany to Karl and Margarete Jaschke (Yeshka) Skutta.  She was the youngest of four girls.  

She grew up in Germany and went to a Catholic School.  Charlotte lost her parents when she was eight years old, and her three older sisters raised her.  

Charlotte met the love of her life, Willy Schauss, at 16 through her sister Christa.  

They were married Aug. 12, 1955, and had a lifetime of love and happiness together.  

They welcomed two daughters both born in Germany, Cornelia and Tina.  Charlotte and Willy decided to emigrate to America for a better life.  

They followed Christa and Guenther Schauss to America and settled in Flint, Mich., in 1957.  There they welcomed their son, Andy.  After two years in Flint, Willy and Charlotte decided to find their home in Libby, Mont., in 1960 to be closer to family.  

Charlotte was a home-maker and welcomed two more daughters, Veronica and Martha. 

In 1968, Charlotte worked at J. Neils Lumber Co. She stayed there for 25 years.   

She was preceded in death by her parents, Karl and Margarete, husband, Willy, in 1999, brother in law, Guenther in 2008, brother- in-law Clemens Winkler in Germany, sister-in-law Ava and Lonny also in Germany.    

She is survived by companion Edward Perley of 12 years, five children, Cornelia Andrews of Kalispel, Tina and Dennis McCann of Vancouver, Wash., Veronica and Joey Meacham of Missoula, Mont., Andy Schauss of the Philippines, and Martha Schauss of Branson, Mo., sister Christa Schauss of Libby, sister Margarete Winkler of Germany, sister Gertrude Skutta of Germany, 12 grandchildren, 15 great- grandchildren, one great, great-granddaughter, and numerous nieces and nephews in the U.S. and Germany.

Visitation will be 1 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 14, 2012, at the Schnackenberg & Nelson Funeral Home in Libby.  

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday, June 15 at the Assembly of God Church in Libby. 

Burial services to follow at the City of Libby Cemetery and a reception following at Wilkinson Hall, 101 Collins Avenue.  

Memorials may be made to the Diabetes Association in Charlotte’s name.
