Fisher River Fire Service Area officials, while updating the agency’s governing bylaws and noticing inconsistencies in its operations, petitioned Lincoln County Commissioners last week for expansion of services it is already performing.

Fire Chief Dean Herreid, Training Officer Michael Rogers, Capt. Henry Roy and Board member Marlene Herreid presented a petition to commisioners last week for expansion of services.

“Thank you for wanting to be in compliance,” presiding Commissioner Marianne Roose said.

Chief Herreid was asked whether the lawsuit filed by Cabinet View FSA played a role in the application.

“It did,” Rogers, the training officer, said. “Yes, we want to do it the right way.”

“Mostly, it’s standard operating procedure. We saw we were lacking in this, so we went about fixing it,” Rogers said.

Fixing it meant collecting 87 signatures for a  petition to submit to county commissioners.

“We thought it was going to take some time, but we got it all done (signatures) in a few hours during Memorial Day weekend.

The commissioners have 30 to 90 days to review the application that allows FRFSA to respond to wildfires, structure, other fires and ambulance calls.

“We’d like approval in 31 days,” Roy said.
