Megan Wedel will be returning home to Libby on Saturday to perform with her band for thousands of fans at J. Neils Park. Then she’ll hand the stage to Sawyer Brown.

Wedel, a Libby native, will play in front of her hometown for the first time with her Spokane-based band, Troubadour, to raise money for the Center for Asbestos Related Diseases at the Second Annual Big Sky Bash on July 14.

There is a little bit of nerves in play for the 22-year-old.

“It’s the biggest venue we’ve ever played at,” she said. “But it’s awesome to be playing for people that I know.”

Sawyer Brown, a country-rock band founded in 1981, has produced dozens of albums and might challenge last year’s attendance and fundraising efforts. The first edition of the concert featured The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and local favorite The

Copper Mountain Band and raised more than $25,000 with 2,500 in attendance.

“Last year, we set the bar pretty high for ourselves,” said Betty Jo Wood, development officer for CARD. “People are really excited. Before the concert was even done last year people were like “what’s next year?””

The proceeds from the concert will go to CARD, something Wood sees as an important contribution to the Center.

Tickets are available at The Western News for $25.

The concert will be at J. Neils Park, and will begin at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, July 14.
