Libby School Board on Tuesday approved partial demolition of the Asa Wood building and to present a contract to Superintendent Kirby Maki for the 2012-’13 school year.

The board approved renovations to portions of the Asa Wood building, including the West Wing and the Library. However, Maki will have to meet with the EPA soon to discuss the extent of demolition. Also, the district will inquire about disposal fees for debris. Maki will ask the county to waive fees for the debris to make the project more cost-effective.

The Board presented a contract for the superintendent position for the next school year. Maki has been asked to serve as the superintendent for the upcoming year, the board will vote again at next month’s meeting.

Members discussed the complexity in scheduling the board meeting, considering scheduled-school activities and City Council meeting in Libby, the board approved of meeting the first Monday of every month at 4:30 p.m. for special-agenda meetings and the second Monday of every month at 7 p.m. for regularly scheduled meetings.

A wrestling coach for the middle school, Jason Harrington, was hired by approval from the board at last nights meeting.

The board voted against the item to provide retirement incentives to faculty retiring from their positions.

Before the meeting was adjourned, members voted for final reading and approval of policy No. 2510 — providing students in the district with healthier snack and food options and better physical-activity programs.

The school board will meet again at 7 p.m. Feb. 13, the meeting will be held at the Little Theatre.
