Libby locals were happy to see the Greenchain back home for Friday’s wrestling duals against the Frenchtown Broncs and the Glacier Wolfpack.
Greenchain began the season with a lot of muscle. However, the momentum has dwindled — they are beginning to finish with more losses than wins.
“We just aren’t doing as well as we did in the beginning of the season — not really sure why,” Greenchain coach, Kelly Morford said.
The Bronc dual was originally scheduled for Jan. 21. However, the weather called for freezing rain and the dual was rescheduled for Jan. 27. Making this match a double-header.
The dual ended with another loss for Libby, 44-32.
Greenchain wrestlers geared up for the next dual — Glacier Wolfpack, ranked No. 1 in the “AA” class.
“Glacier will determine the pace,” Morford said. “So far, we’ve just been wrestling very flat-footed. We need to push the pace.”
The Greenchain lost Mark Noble, 160-pound, to a separated-shoulder injury this week, after suffering a knee injury for most of the season. Mitch Haugen, 130-pound, pinned Wolfpack Roy Schutter.
However, not before he suffered a head injury on the mat — he later returned after receiving stiches to wrestle against Glacier, wearing a full mask. Haugen lost by a major decision to Wolfpack Kaleb Mitchell.
Libby choked at home in the last dual, losing 64-10.
