Lady Trojans defeat Lady Loggers by 4
Troy, winless last year, took a whack at a larger school and toppled Libby 30-26.
In an evenly paced game, the Lady Trojans exploited matchups and time at the free-throw line to surprise the Lady Loggers, which have yet to win a game.
Although only four players scored for Troy, two players were in double digits. Jordan Williams led all scorers with 11 points, and she didn’t even score in two quarters. Senior guard Alanah True-Silva followed on Williams’ heels with 10 points, including a game-clinching six in the fourth quarter.
Hailey Craig, who notched nine points, led Libby. Dalyn Germany had seven.
Even though Troy, by all rights, could have controlled the game from the get-go, the team just couldn’t get in a flow.
“We aren’t used to being in situations like that,” said Troy’s Head Coach Kara Sevalstad. “We aren’t used to being comfortable. We have to get comfortable.”
Troy’s trepidation with being comfortable came from leading a Class A school, something not necessarily unexpected, but definitely new for the Lady Trojans.
Although the team made some mental errors, the junior point guard, Kelli Lundin, looks like basketball is second nature to her. Her quarter backing of Troy’s offense is something the team could well feed on later in the season.
Libby, a team that seems to get younger by the week, had five players score.
Head Coach Jim May should be commended for keeping the girls from giving up in the light of injuries, players quitting and a rough schedule.
“It’s just the way it is,” May said. “I’ve see=n teams in the past go through what we are going through. We’ve got to work through it.”
Libby was thumped by Columbia Falls 65-28 on Saturday. Thompson Falls beat Troy 45-26.
