Let's all remember: Park was intended for W.R. Grace victims
Letter to the Editor,
The new park in Libby was dedicated to the victims of W.R. Grace and the asbestos epidemic that has been a long-running issue in Libby.
The point of that particular park was to be a memorial to those who have lost their lives. Why do we want to take this away from them by making this park about the veterans, too?
I give my total support to all veterans, and I do believe they deserve to have this memorial, but why must you take away from the asbestos victims and their families?
I know that they may not have fought on a large scale like the veterans, but they were fighting a losing battle at home; working to feed their families and basically killing themselves in the process. These victims are not nationally recognized like the veterans are, so why take this small amount of recognition away from them, in their city, that they worked so hard for? Why are they any less important?
Also, the veterans have stated that they want the memorial visible from the roadway.
Well, then this is not the place to put it. You can only see that park for a very limited time since you are coming up over a bridge. Not only that, if people do start gawking over the side rail, how many accidents do you think that will cause?
Please take emotion out of this decision and use some good old-fashioned logic!
