Anglers have a sixth sense when it comes to locating fly shops. It’s a little bit like discovering a nice river eddy where that trophy lunker may be lurking.

Some may say this ability to locate fly shops for an angler is like a women’s fascination with shoes.

Shoo Fly Fishing and Outdoors, LLC, owned by Steve and Denise Kalb in Troy is the new shop.

Located at 1010 E. Missoula Ave., Shoo Fly Fishing offers locally hand-tied flies (by Steve) and fishing tackle for every kind of anlger, satisfying the needs well beyond the fly angler.

“Our plan is to be a full-scale fishing shop, catering to fishing enthusiasts of all kinds,” said Steve Kalb. “I make Shoo Fly Fishing tackle, custom spoons, hand-lathed wood plugs, hand-tied flies for big lake fishing and smaller lakes and streams.”

The Kalbs also hope to add camping gear, and they are in the process of supplementing their ice-fishing inventory.

When anglers stop in to visit the Kalbs at Shoo Fly Fishing, ask them to see Steve Kalb’s hand-crafted graphite fly rods. He makes them in various weights, with really an impressive cork laquered grip.
