Edith C. Kair, 94, of Libby

Edith C. Kair, 94, of Libby passed away Saturday Aug. 25, 2012, at Libby Care Center.  

She was born Nov. 12, 1917, near Kalispell, Mont., to A.C. and Edith Nickolson.  She was the youngest of nine children.  

She attended rural schools in Flathead and Lake counties for her elementary education.  

She graduated from Flathead High School in 1936.  

Edith attended the University of Montana in Dillon where she received her teacher’s certificate in 1938.  She taught in many rural schools until she met and married Morris H. Kair in 1940 in Libby.  

They moved to Portland, Ore., where Morris worked in shipyards during World War II.  

During this time, she taught school at Washington State School for the Blind.  

Shortly before the war was over, they had a son, and after moving back to Kalispell, they had a daughter.  Edith again began teaching in rural schools until 1953 when she accepted a position in the Libby Public Schools as a fifth-grade teacher and a reading supervisor for 27 years.  

During this time she also received her BA and MA from the University of Montana in Missoula.  

After retiring in 1980, she served on the Libby School Board for many years.  She was a member of the United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School and Bible Studies as well.  

She has many more accomplishments during her time that are too numerous to list.  Edith loved music and gardening.

She was preceded in death by all eight of her brothers and sisters; her parents; her husband Morris Kair; and one great-grandson.

Survivors include her son, Mickael, and wife, Ronda; her daughter Sheila and husband, David; four grandsons David, Brian, Scott and Kelly; one granddaughter Kimberly; 11 great-grandsons and two great-granddaughters; numerous great-great-grandchildren; and many, many special friends.

Funeral services for Edith will be at 2 p.m. Friday Aug. 31, 2012, at the United Methodist Church, 713 Main Ave. in Libby.  

Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Thursday Aug. 30, 2012, at Schnackenberg & Nelson Funeral Home, 422 W. 2nd St, in Libby.  

Interment will be at Glacier Memorial Gardens in Kalispell, Mont.
