Souse Gulch Boat Ramp to close for cleanup

| August 14, 2012 11:45 AM

The Souse Gulch Boat Ramp at Libby Dam will be temporarily closed starting Monday, August 20, 2012 at 7:00 am until work is finished on August 23, 2012.

The closure is necessary to remove logs and floating debris that has accumulated in the reservoir because of last month’s high water event and record rainfalls.

The boat dock will be pulled out of the water and moved out of the way to allow work equipment to remove the debris and haul it away.

Large trucks will be hauling on FR 228 all day during this work.

The Visitor Center and remainder of Souse Gulch recreational area will remain open during the work, however, visitors to Libby Dam should be aware that the Forest Road 228 and access to the Visitor Center will be heavily impacted by traffic from the hauling of multiple dump-truckloads of debris.

Please expect delays and yield right-of-way and stay well clear of the work area for safety and that of the workers.

Alternative ramps in the area include McGillivray and Cripple Horse or the Koocanusa Marina.

For more information, please contact Park Rangers Susan James or Alana Mesenbrink at  293-5577.
