Library still has full slate of events scheduled

| August 14, 2012 11:35 AM

As students prepare to head back to school and teachers begin to prepare their classrooms for the fall, there still is much learning that can be achieved at the  Lincoln County Public Library in Libby.

The Libby Library will host story time for preschool age children every Tuesday at 10 am.

On Aug. 11 at noon, the library will be showing the movie “Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein.” The movie is 83 minutes and not rated.

Also on Aug. 11, 4  to 6 p.m. there will be an adult program discussing the “History of Horror”.

On Aug. 15, the drawings for the Teen and Adult Summer Reading Winners will be drawn at noon.

From 9:30 p.m. to midnight Aug. 17, there will be a stargazing event for families at the Asa Wood field.  Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

On Aug, 18 at noon the library will be showing the 1966 movie “Batman” starring Adam West and Burt Ward.  The movie is 105 minutes and rated PG.

The libraries in Eureka, Libby and Troy will be closed Saturday Aug. 25 for a morning in-service and then to host a volunteer appreciation picnic for all of the wonderful people who have generously supported the Lincoln County Public Libraries.

The picnic will be held in Libby at the upper pavilion in Fireman’s park starting at noon.  All volunteer and staff family members are welcome.

The last day to pick up Summer Reading Prizes is August 28.

The Lincoln County Public Libraries and the Libby Dam Rangers are continuing their partnership to present a great set of programs for children ages 6-12 through the Dam’s Junior Ranger Program.

All events are at the Libby Library at 10 a.m. and last about 30 to 45 minutes.  Siblings are encouraged to attend.  Each program a child attends will fill one page of their “Junior Ranger Passport” book.

Participants who complete all four programs will receive a special certificate and a Junior Ranger Pin.

The programs highlight the delicate balancing act done every day by the Corps of Engineers to meet multiple needs for hydro-electric power production, flood damage mitigation, recreation, and fish and wildlife.

On Aug. 14, Ranger Myka Forster invites children to learn how the dam affects fish with a Fish Bingo game.  August 21, Ranger Cody Barrick will offer a hands-on activity about electricity.

Families are encouraged to visit the Libby Dam after each program to round out their experience.

Tours of Libby Dam are offered at 10am, 12pm, 2pm and 4pm daily until Aug 25th.  After Aug 25th tours are available by appointment.  Please bring photo ID for everyone 18 and over and arrive 15 minutes early for your tour.

Please call Libby Dam Visitor Center at (406) 293-5577 for any questions.

The last Friday of every month is Amnesty Day at the Lincoln County Libraries.  This month Amnesty Day is Friday, August 31.  Any materials less than 90 days overdue which are returned in good condition to any of the three libraries on that day will have all penalties waived.  Overdue interlibrary loan materials are not included.

For more upcoming library events, please view the calendar on the Lincoln County Public Libraries website, www.lincolncountylibraries.com.
