Change in our production day will benefit readers, news

| August 14, 2012 11:53 AM

The Western News is changing its production day for our Friday editions from Wednesday to Thursday, and we’re excited about it, and I think you will be, too!

Beginning with next Friday’s edition, Aug. 17, we will go to press on Thursday instead of Wednesday.

Why are we excited?

From the news standpoint, it will allow us a more equitable split in our production days from two and five days to three and four.

Certainly, it will enable us to get more updated news in that edition.

From the advertising view, it will give our advertisers and ad sales staff more time to produce advertising.

Basically, I think it’s a win for everyone all around.

Like I said, we’re excited about it and I think you will be, too.

I took the opportunity again recently to play the links at Cabinet View Golf Club, first time this year.

With apologies to Ben, ... Holy Hogan!

What’s the old saying? “You forget how much you miss the game until you play it again?”

My senses reminded me recently in just two-plus hours on the nine what a fantastic course we have right here in our own back yard.

I find I don’t play often enough any more to warrant keeping score, so I just play. For me, it’s more relaxing this way.

I’m not a long driver, and I always depended on my short game to make up on the approaches for what I lacked off the tee.

Yes, I went to the “Drive for Show; Putt for Dough School of Golf.”

Anyway, all of my short-game skills have abandoned me for the lack of play, but at Cabinet View it doesn’t seem to matter.

On this day, I played with reporter Ryan Murray and his father, and, certainly, one thing was apparent: It’s obvious who the working stiffs are and who’s retired.

Joe Murray hits the ball a country mile off the tee and then his short game seems to be eveything mine was — and more — 25 years ago.

But, like I said, who’s counting, right?

Certainly, we weren’t, at least not the strokes. However, I think we were all counting our blessings.

Think Cabinet View is not an asset to Libby? Take a stroll at the local Golf Club. Take in the scenery — the whitetail does with their fawns munching grass out of the corner of your eye as you line up a putt; watch, the turkey hens with their poults on Hole No. 3.

Truly, we are blessed with Cabinet View’s vistas of the Majestic Cabinets.

Just like Iowa corn is to Kevin Costner’s Field of Dreams, folks, we have a Golf Club here in Libby that just could be Golf Heaven!

No, we don’t have golf legend ghosts walking onto the greens from the wilderness, but the wild game is pretty good, too!
