Libby Dam rangers to offer special sessions just for children
Children may never look at the Libby Dam in the same way ever again thanks to a free Junior Ranger Program.
Sure, it will still be an engineering marvel, but it will also represent fun, games and learning.
The free Junior Ranger Program is now being offered at Libby Library by Libby Dam Rangers.
Beginning at 10 a.m. Tuesdays 1 through Aug. 21, kids from ages 6 to 12 can earn a Junior Ranger Passport, pin and certificate of completion.
Presented by Libby Dam rangers, the programs highlight the delicate balancing act done every day by the Corps of Engineers to meet multiple needs for Hydro-electric power production, flood damage mitigation, recreation, and fish and wildlife.
At 10 a.m. on the following Tuesdays at the Libby Library:
Aug. 14: Ranger Myka Forster invites children to learn about fish with a Fish Bingo game.
Aug. 21: Ranger Cody Barrick will offer a hands-on activity about electricity.
Each program a child attends will fill one page of their “Junior Ranger Passport” book.
Participants who complete all four Activities will receive a special certificate and a Junior Ranger pin.
Activities will last about 30 to 45 minutes and parents and siblings are encouraged to attend!
The above programs will be held at the Libby Library, however families are encouraged to come up to Libby Dam for a tour to round out their experience!
Tours of Libby Dam are offered at 10am, 12pm, 2pm and 4pm daily until Aug 25th. After Aug 25th tours are available by appointment. Please bring photo ID for everyone 18 and over and arrive 15 minutes early for your tour.
